Calculation methodology

Hourdesk calculators run in your browser using shared duration and pay math. Results are planning estimates — not legal, tax, FLSA, or payroll compliance advice. Each tool page also includes a short methodology section and a worked example.

Work hours, punches, and pay

For each in/out interval, worked minutes equal clock duration minus unpaid break minutes. Overnight rows (out earlier than in) wrap past midnight and count toward the start date. Regular vs overtime minutes use Simple defaults or the daily/weekly thresholds you set in Custom. Pay estimates are gross rate × allocated hours (tools that expose an OT multiplier use that rate for OT minutes), not net or taxed pay.

Duration arithmetic

Decimal hours = total minutes ÷ 60. Converting decimal back to hh:mm rounds to the nearest whole minute (8.5 → 8:30, not 8:50). Hours & Minutes adds and subtracts duration rows in integer minutes and may show a signed total when subtractions exceed additions.

Business days

Count is inclusive: every calendar day from start through end that matches your workweek mask and is not a holiday date you marked. Dates are calendar-only (no clock times). This tool does not estimate pay or punched hours.

Estimates only — not legal or tax advice. See our Privacy Policy.
