Overtime Calculator
Turn a known total of hours worked into regular and overtime buckets using daily or weekly thresholds — without building a full week schedule.
Ready when you Calculate
Enter total worked time and press Calculate to see regular vs overtime pay.
How it works
An overtime calculator is threshold-first: you supply one worked total, then daily and/or weekly cutoffs allocate how much of that total is regular versus premium. You do not build a week of in/out times. Enter the total as hh:mm or decimal, add rate and currency, choose Simple or Custom cutoffs, then Calculate. Allocation runs locally.
With a weekly cutoff active, the engine evenly spreads your single total across five weekdays so weekly premium rules can run — still one input, not a timetable. Daily-only mode applies the daily cutoff to one day (max 24 hours).
Quick steps
- Type one worked total (hh:mm or decimal) — not a day-by-day timetable.
- Set wage and currency for the pre-tax estimate.
- Pick Simple defaults or Custom daily/weekly cutoffs.
- Press Calculate to see base versus premium buckets and pay.
- Open Work Hours instead if you still need clock-pair entry.
When to use this tool
Choose Overtime to answer “how much of this total is premium under my cutoffs?” If the premium band is already measured elsewhere, switch to rate × hours pricing instead. If you still need to assemble a weekly timetable of clock pairs, start on the schedule tool.
The five-weekday spread is a synthetic apportionment so weekly cutoffs can run against one number. It is not a claim that you worked identical shifts Mon–Fri — only a modeling stub for premium-band discovery.
Worked example
Example: 45:00 worked total, $25 wage, weekly cutoff after 40 hours at 1.5× → 40 base hours ($1,000) plus 5 premium hours ($187.50) for about $1,187.50 pre-tax. Cutoffs are yours to set; figures are planning estimates only.
Methodology & assumptions
Minutes above your daily and/or weekly cutoff are priced at the premium multiplier; the remainder at base wage. Weekly mode spreads the entered total across five days before allocation — a modeling choice for cutoff math, not a claim about your real timetable. Pre-tax estimates only. See calculation methodology.
FAQ
- How is overtime allocated from a total?
- You enter total worked time plus daily and/or weekly thresholds. For weekly (or daily+weekly) thresholds, that total is spread evenly across five weekdays so the same engine path as Work Hours can allocate regular vs OT — results match threshold rules, not a literal day-by-day schedule you typed. Daily-only mode uses one day (max 24h).
- How is this different from the Work Hours Calculator?
- Work Hours is schedule-first (in/out times across days). Overtime is threshold-first when you already know the total hours worked.
- Does a share link include my hours or pay?
- No. An Overtime share URL carries mode, currency, and threshold choices only — not the total hours you typed or the estimated OT pay.
