How it works
A time card calculator sums card-style punches that each carry a calendar date — clock in, clock out, and break minutes — inside a pay window you define. It is not a Mon–Sun hour grid. Set the period bounds, add dated punches, pick Simple or Custom cutoffs, then Calculate. Each row maps to one engine entry; up to 31 punches; math stays on-device.
Any punch whose date falls outside the pay window is ignored. If clock-out is earlier than clock-in on a row, the span crosses midnight and accrues to the punch’s start date.
Quick steps
- Set the pay-period start and end dates.
- Add a punch row with calendar date, clock in, clock out, and unpaid break.
- Repeat for each shift in the period (up to 31 rows).
- Choose Simple or Custom OT thresholds and an hourly rate if you want pay.
- Press Calculate for period hours and estimated gross pay.
When to use this tool
Pick Time Card when every shift is stamped with a calendar date inside a billing or payroll window. Pick Timesheet for weekday column grids of decimal hours without dates, and Work Hours for a repeating weekly timetable that does not need pay-period bounds.
Worked example
One punch on 01-05-2026 from 09:00–17:00 with 60 unpaid break minutes at $25/hour yields 7 worked hours and an estimated gross of $175 before overtime rules. Add more dated punches in the period for running pay-period totals.
Methodology & assumptions
Per punch, elapsed minutes equal out minus in, minus break minutes on that row. Rows whose calendar date sits outside the pay window contribute nothing. Daily/weekly cutoffs you configure allocate regular versus OT; money is a pre-tax estimate only. Full shared formulas: calculation methodology.
FAQ
- How is a time card different from a timesheet?
- Time Card uses dated punch rows (clock in, clock out, break) for a pay period. Timesheet uses a weekday column grid of hours.
- How are overnight shifts handled?
- When clock out is earlier than clock in on the same row, worked time wraps past midnight and counts toward the punch start date — matching the work-hours engine overnight policy.
- Does a share link include my punches or pay?
- No. A Time Card share URL keeps pay-period mode and threshold settings only. Dated punch rows, break minutes, and calculated pay stay on your device.
